Do you have lived experience of stroke? Do you want to be paid to deliver content for Stroke Foundation’s YoungStroke website?

Stroke Foundation Young Stroke website is here to meet the information needs of stroke survivors aged 18 to 65 years.

An important part of the website is content delivered by stroke survivors, their partners, families, carers and friends. If you have an idea about a blog, article, podcast or video, let us know.

If your pitch is successful, we’ll pay you to deliver it. We can also help you to deliver it, with advice and support.

Once you apply, we’ll confirm we’ve received your application by email. We’ll let you know the outcome as soon as we can.

We want the diversity of our community to be represented in our content. We are particularly keen to hear from people who identify as:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse
  • LGBTQIA+
  • Having different communication needs such as aphasia
  • Aged between 18 – 25

Frequently Asked Questions

What are you looking for?

We have a pretty open mind about what content can be delivered.

You could create a written piece, a video or a podcast. It could be an interview, a conversation, a story, an article, even a listicle! Thinking of something else? Tell us about it!

We are inspired by people sharing what they’re most passionate about, their experiences, stories, and advice.

While you can pitch any idea you have, we’ve heard from our community that the following topics are in demand

  • Psychological wellbeing and mental health
  • Sex, dating and relationships
  • Work, study and volunteering
  • Experiences of treatment and care
  • NDIS access and planning
  • Rehabilitation
  • Connection to Country and culture
  • Travel, leisure and going out
  • Aphasia
  • Support crew

You can also have a look through the content on the Young Stroke website for ideas – do you notice anything that’s missing? What would have helped you in your stroke recovery journey? What do you think other people might need?

How does this whole thing work?

1. You tell us your idea by Monday 24th July, 11:59pm (AEST)

A panel  will check out your application. The panel is made up of Stroke Foundation staff members and includes someone with lived experience.

2. You pitch

If you get to this stage, the panel will invite you to pitch your idea via Zoom, phone or email. You can tell us about what you want to do and ask us questions.

3. You make a plan

At this stage, the panel will ask you to provide a project plan. We’ll give you a template to complete. It will include more detail on:

  • What you’ll do to prepare: do reading and research, ask people to appear in your content etc
  • What you’ll deliver: a written piece or podcast or a video for example
  • The cost: how many hours it will take you to prepare and deliver your content.

4. You deliver

If your plan is accepted, we’ll arrange an agreement and payment schedule. As you develop your content, Stroke Foundation staff and previous content creators will help with advice, guidance and troubleshooting.

Throughout the stages, we will let unsuccessful applicants know as soon as possible. We will explore other options with you if you’re interested in that.

Can I apply with someone else?

Sounds like fun. Yes, you can.

Once I apply, how long will it take you to get back to me?

Once the application deadline has passed, we’ll get back to everyone within a week. We’ll let you know your application has been received and talk to you about next steps.

How much do you pay?

You can set your own budget. The only rule is that we won’t pay you any less than $50 an hour for your work. The maximum we can pay for a project is $1000. We may cover some out-of-pocket expenses. We can’t pay for equipment.
